ARE YOU PRESS WORTHY?

“If there’s a missing white woman, you’re going to cover that, every day” - Gwen Ifill, 2014.

There’s a huge bias when it comes to reporting of missing people - a phenomenon often called “Missing White Woman Syndrome”. Reports are often determined by demographics such as ethnicity, gender, age, and location. In 2021, Columbia Journalism Review launched AreYouPressworthy.com, an online tool that allows you to guess how much attention you would get from the public if you go missing.
